The movie: Zero Dark Thirty. It’s a good movie to see about how your country operates overseas and what it does to capture bin Laden. You heard about it but seeing it on the screen is much more shocking. I walked out of the theatre with my head spinning. Maybe because the movie ran 2.5 hours and I don’t like sitting that long but probably more the thought that CIA people live on the edge all the time and it’s hard to fanthom that kind of life. Definately a movie to see but don’t expect to walk out of the theatre exhilorated.

The movie: Dancing at Lughnasa. Another Streep movie from the late 90’s. We are Streep fans. Great acting by all the players. 5 spinster sisters living on the financal edge in 1930’s Ireland. Poverty has marginalized the family’s ability to operate and then industrialization shows up and makes matters worse. This is worth seeing but a good amount of heartache.

The movie: The Hobbit.Of course this is a great movie to see whether or not you read the book. If you haven’t read the book, read it you’ll enjoy the movie even more so. But here’s the point. People get up in the morning and feel bad about themselves. They reflect on all their problems and want to take pills to deal with them or they overeat. The next time that happens, think of Bilbo Baggins and what he had to face each and every day of his adventure with no background to do that job. Makes our problems seem small. I also recall that Tolkien served in WWI. He probably came from a genteel background with little understanding of the world of war.Our job seems easy in comparasion.
